Mike Bechthold – “Saving D-Day: The Royal Winnipeg Rifles in Normandy”
The Royal Winnipeg Rifles stormed ashore and successfully breached Hitler’s Atlantic Wall on D-Day, the 6th of June 1944. Their first 48 hours ashore would be crucial to the success of the Allied invasion. At a tiny village called Putot-en-Bessin the Winnipegs faced the most important battle of their war when they were heavily attacked by the elite German 12th SS Panzer Division. The outcome of that battle had the potential to change the course of the Allied invasion.
