In October, David O’Keefe gave a talk as part of our webinar series based on his book Seven Days in Hell: Canada’s Battle in Normandy and the Rise of the Black Watch Snipers. His talk is now available on our YouTube channel.

More than 300 soldiers from the Black Watch found themselves pinned down, as the result of strategic blunders and the fog of war, and only a handful walked away. Drawing on formerly classified documents and rare first-person testimony, O’Keefe follows the footsteps of the ghosts of Normandy, giving a voice to the men who sacrificed everything in the summer of 1944.

David O’Keefe is an award-winning historian, documentarian and professor at Marianopolis College in Westmount, Quebec. He served with the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada in the Canadian Forces in Montreal.

Our webinar series is finished for 2020 but you can join us again on 13 January for our next talk“Bio-Imperialism: Disease, Terror, and the Construction of National Fragility” by Gwen D’Arcangelis.

Stay tuned for the release of November’s webinar by Alex Souchen.
